Round Robin: Through a Window

I've been so distracted this week what the date for the Round Robin Challenge: In the Window is upon me and I haven't taken any usable pictures for it. Well, not recently, anyway. I did take a few tonight, but they're worthless. It doesn't matter, though, because I've taken lots of pictures over the course of this year that do qualify as looking in a window. Some of them are previously unpublished, at least on this blog. Here are some of my favorites:

From March: here is a peek in a window of St. Michael and All Angels. It was around Palm Sunday, and if you look carefully you can see the crossed palms inside the window.

From May: I rushed into the Mission San Xavier del Bac late one afternoon, just before they locked up for the evening. In the museum and gift shop area there was a large display case full of old statuary. I managed to photograph the icons through both the front and side windows of the display.

From Tucson Botanical Gardens

In June I visited the Tucson Botanical Gardens. Here's a view in through a window of a greenhouse there.

From Summer at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum

In July a friend was in town for the day, so I met her out at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, essentially a desert-themed zoo west of Tucson. It was a hot, muggy monsoon day, so the animals weren't very active, including this ocelot, seen through a viewing window into its den.

This mountain lion was also sacked out in its windowed den.

These bobcats are seen here looking through a viewing window into their habitat.

That's enough. Now let's peek inside everone else's windows!

EMPS: Doggie in the Window

Cayenne silhouetted in her favorite window

For this week's Ellipsis Monday Photo Shoot, Carly wants us to photograph windows. I took a bunch of exceedingly boring window shots tonight, only to realize that I have much better ones to offer from my archives of the past week or so. Let's take a look!

Distracted from the outside world.

The north-facing window in the front room (ostensibly our living room, but we spend approximately zero time there) is where Cayenne and Pepper go to check out suspicious noises on the street or in the front yard next door, or to find out why John or Karen has pulled into the driveway but hasn't come in the house yet. It's right next to the front door, so it takes but a moment to make the transition from investigation to wild greeting.

What's out there, Cay-Cay?

These shots were taken the day before the election. Notice that Cayenne is wearing the red, white and blue bandanna instead of the red pawprint one and the turquoise zebra print one. This particular shot is a little out of focus because of the lighting conditions and my just-okay camera, but I like her expression in it.

Same scene, with lights on and flash.

Here's how the scene looks fully lit, by daylight and artificial light. Usually the couch covers are less messy than this, but the dogs do get in the way of them staying nice and neat.

Election morning chill.

Carly also asked to see the view from a car window. This is what I saw as I prepared to drive to my local polling place on Election Day morning. The next order of business after that was to get my car washed. And right after that, I made a mess again - but only on one window:

The writing was in soap, part of a Soap for Hope campaign.

That afternoon I was looking in the car windows on the driver's side as I prepared to drive my dogs home from the dog park.

Be sure to check Ellipsis every Monday for the Ellipsis Monday Photo Shoot topic, and to see the links for the previous week's participants. And by the way, quick plug: I host John Scalzi's old writing prompt, the Weekend Assignment, right here every Friday. Check it out!
