Round Robin: Split Dogs and Mixed Up Signs

It's Round Robin time! This week's topic, Two Halves Don't Make a Whole, was suggested by Nancy of Nancy Luvs Pix. The idea is to photograph two similar things, take half of each, and line them up so they almost fit together as one photo. Silly me, I thought this would be fairly easy. Take the shots, resize so they match, and line 'em up! But it wasn't quite that simple....

One idea I had for this was to piece together halves of different Mexican restaurant signs photographed along 22nd St., but the dogs were in the car and I didn't want to mess with it. So I photographed signs at the Safeway Plaza, the same place where I photograph so many sunsets.

None of these composites are strictly speaking half and half; I had to crop and fudge to make them work. I think they're close enough.

This one is my favorite of the signs.

But the main thing I wanted to do tonight was composite the dogs, and that was much harder than the signs. Getting two dogs to hold exactly the same pose isn't easy!

Even going through photo archives, it was hard to match up angles and backgrounds and sizes.

Cayenne meets Noodle, a decade late

One cool thing I could do, though, was push two couches together...

...add an extra dog to the bed...

...or even let Cayenne ride with Jenny in the back of our van in 1986!

I suppose that's not exactly the concept, but it sure was fun!

Now go see how everyone else did with this especially challenging Challenge. (And yes, you're invited to play along yourself!)

Hi Karen :)

I like what you did with this very much! You did a really good job with the pups, it was fun to see Tuffy with Pepper and Cayenne. Sometimes I imagine Elvis visiting and playing with Dylan and Hendrix. It's a nice daydream sometimes. Comforting. :) You have inspired me once again.

The signs are perfect! What a cool idea!

Wow karen...how creative! I too, thought it would be a whole lot easier.
WRONG!

I also wanted so much to put my 2 dogs together. Maybe I'll still do it but post it another time.

Well done!

Yours were a lot of fun as I knew they would be! I can't believe how well you were able to match up the dogs - it was such good matches that it was almost creepy, LOL! My other idea was to photograph a big man, maybe a big bald man for the top half with a tiny woman in a short skirt and high heals for the bottom photo - both standing in the same spot so the backgrounds would match up perfectly - it would have been a funny one, but I doubt if I'll ever get around to doing it now that the challenge is over. Oh well!

Karen, I love the signs! Very good! The ones of the dogs are so strange..you did it well tho..poor things. I do like what you did with the couch and in the back of the car. It was a different type of challenge this time around. :)
